Interest and abilities

Taking a closer look at your interests and abilities can help you make better choices about your education and make the right decisions regarding your future. Before setting goals, it's a good idea to think about what you enjoy doing most, what you're good at and how you handle challenges in your life.

Choices at 14

During year 9 at school you should be offered an interview to discuss your choices and future career plans. Understanding how important these next two years are will help you to make the right choices.

Choices at 16

At 16 many of you will have taken, or will be taking your GCSEs. After your exams your full time education can stop or continue. You'll now have more influence over your future; not just what you'll study but where and how.

Choices at 18

At 18 you have many choices available to you. You can choose to go to university or take a gap year, start work as an apprentice or start full-time employment.

Further support

You can talk to your Personal Adviser in school or call into your local Connexions Centre/One Stop Shop to talk through your options.
