Eating the right foods
People who eat a wide variety of food are healthier, live longer and have reduced risk of developing lifestyle illness. Food choices can influence your risk of developing illnesses such as:
- heart disease
- cancer
- diabetes
Food Guide Pyramid
Food variety means eating a variety of foods across the whole range of food types, such as
- vegetables
- fruit
- meat
- fish
- dairy products – milk, cheese, butter, yoghurt
- cereals – wheat, oats, rice, barley
- fatty foods - sweets, chocolate, crisps (not too many of these!)
To help you build a healthy diet, the Food Guide Pyramid gives the number of servings you should try to eat from each part of the pyramid every day
Exercise
