What we keep and why

Connexions, part of Essex County Council’s Integrated Youth Service (IYS) hold information about you, mainly on computer and occasionally on paper. This information is held securely and can only be seen by appropriate staff, e.g. Personal Advisers, working to support you. Our publications area provides a link to a PDF document and an audio version of our leaflet ‘Your information – What we keep and why’. This leaflet explains the types of information we keep, how information is shared, information about surveys and how to see a copy of your records.   

Information captured through our website

Occasionally we run surveys and polls to capture the views of young people in Essex and this is used for statistical purposes. If you are:

  • an employer you can register your details in order to receive e-newsletters about the services Connexions provide. You can also provide details about vacancies you are offering
  • a parent or carer you can register to receive e-newsletters to help keep you informed with information to support your son/daughter
  • a partner you can register to receive e-newsletters to help keep you informed about the services Connexions provide

Website comments

Our website gives you the opportunity to feedback views about the information provided. This helps us quality assure and tailor the information we provide to your needs. All comments are moderated before posting. Comments are not posted, or words are omitted if it:

  • is derogatory, insulting, offensive or of an inappropriate nature
  • is an extreme view or opinion
  • is marketing or promoting a commercial website
  • contains personal information such as full names and addresses.

MyConnexions

MyConnexions is a registered area of the site where you can create and store your CV and covering letters. Essex County Council handles information in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Data Protection Act 1998 and is the registered data controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Any personal information that you provide will only be accessible to persons working for Essex County Council and will only be used for contact between you and Essex County Council and for statistical purposes. Essex County Council will retain the information only for as long as it is necessary to provide a service to you.

We provide specific feedback forms for comments and suggestions about our website; parents’ area and our e-newsletters.

Complaints

We will always investigate your complaint fairly and impartially with no effect on your entitlement to services. To make a complaint you should firstly talk to the team providing the service. You can do this by emailing cnx.enquiries@essex.gov.uk. Please detail your concerns and leave a contact number so that we can contact you about your complaint. If you are unsure of who you need to speak to or wish to make a formal complaint please follow the Essex County Council complaints process.
